Features Central University of Kashmir
The Central University of Jammu & Kashmir was established alongside 15 other Central Universities in the year 2009 by an Act of Parliament.
Later the university was bifurcated into two Universities: the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) and the Central University of Jammu (CUJ).ESTABLISHMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY:The State government earmarked 503 acres of land at Tulmulla and its adjoining areas in the Ganderbal district for the establishment of the permanent campus of the University.In May 2009, the administrative office of the University was set up at Baghi-Hyder, Hyderpora, Srinagar.
The University later shifted its operation to Sonwar, Srinagar.With the expansion of the Academic & Administrative activities, the University established Three campuses at Nowgam area of Srinagar.In 2018, the University shifted to Ganderbal and is currently functioning from the following campuses:Main Campus Tulmulla, GanderbalGreen Campus, Duderhama, GanderbalArts Campus, Beehama, GanderbalScience Campus, Nunar, GanderbalThe Main campus of the University at Tulmulla is spread over a vast landscape with scenic surroundings, providing the campus with a calm ambiance suited for an academic institution.
The construction work is currently going on in full swing at the campus site.
The University is gradually shifting its departments to its new campus at Tulmulla.
The number of students enrolled in various programmes offered by the university is in access of 2700 in the academic year 2022.CHANCELLORS OF THE UNIVERSITY:Srikumar Banerjee: In August 2012, Srikumar Banerjee, a noted scientist, and researcher was appointed as the first Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK).General (Retd.) General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, as the second Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir in the year 2018.VICE-CHANCELLORS OF THE UNIVERSITY:Prof.
Abdul Wahid Qureshi: A noted economist and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University.Prof.
Mehraj-ud-Din Mir: Was appointed as the 2nd Vice Chancellor of the University in 2015.Prof.
Farooq Ahmad Shah: Assumed the charge of Vice-Chancellor of the University in 2021.ACADEMICS & ADMINISTRATION:Currently, the University has Nine (09) schools with 19 constituent Teaching Departments offering 40+ PG, UG, diploma courses, research, and Vocational programmes.
The Academic affairs of the University are looked after by Academic Section.The university has an effective and transparent examination system that adheres strictly to the academic calendar, despite all odds, while transacting its routine business.
The Examination and Evaluation Wing (EEW) of the University conducts examinations for all the programmes of Study in a time-bound manner.To encourage quality research and streamline all research related activities, the University established Directorate of Research and Development (DRD) in 2015.
The University has a full-fledged Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW), an active Central Placement Cell (CPC), and a robust/active Directorate of Quality Assurance (DIQA).The University has also established Directorate of Information & Support System (DITSS) that provides IT-related services to the scholars, students, faculty, and staff of the University.
Browsing Centers on all the campuses have been established with 24x7 high bandwidth internet services.
The University has also embarked on an ambitious e-governance project for the automation of academics, evaluation, finance, and administration.
